SHIRTS ON THIS PAGE AT A GLANCE
DESCRIPTION: Burgundy shirt with lettering on front saying "Find your courage. Sare your vision. Change your world."
COMMENTS: What we, as individuals, often have a difficult time seeing is just how much power we have to make a real difference in the world. This is the tail end of a longer thought from one of my talks. The whole line is this: "It takes courage to not only believe in yourself but also in your vision of the way things ought to be. Find your courage. Share your vision. Change your world."
No one understands your story; your vision of the way things ought to be in your life, in your community, better than you do. Nothing will happen to move you forward on your journey until you make it happen. Dream big and, then, once you’ve got it four fifths figured out, begin to share your story; your Vision. Better yet...begin to live your vision. Courage is quite often misused as a descriptor for folks living with disabilities (think Jerry Lewis. Pat, pat. snivel, sob). The reality is, it takes courage for anyone, disability or no, to challenge the dominent paradym; the ol' status quo.
This is a
great shirt for youth leaders.
DESCRIPTION: White shirt for a design on front and back. Front says:"Don't just sit there. Do something." Back says: "Push yourself" in big light blue letters. Over them, smaller, in black letters reads several options: "Climb a rock. Ride a rapids. Go to school. Run a race. Row a boat. Shoot some hoop. Pitch a tent. Swim a lap. Read a book. Ski a slope. Fly a kite. Dive a reef. Get a job. Get a grip. Play some tennis. Go canoe. Pop a chute. Take a hike. Throw a ball. Throw a frisbee. Pump some iron. See the world. Fall in love. Bungy!"
Kind of a recreational theme going on there. I've
thinking about a buddhist alternative: Don't just do
something! Sit there!
DESCRIPTION: Hunter Green shirt with white artwork depicting an indian dream catcher with feather. Above it it says "Together We Can". Beneath it a wonderful Anatole France quote: "To accomplish great things we must only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe".
This was a collaboration between myself and my friend Ann
Malatchi, from Virginia Commonwealth University. It
stresses the importance of vision, something that few
seem to have but many want to scoff.
DESCRIPTION: White shirt with one of my favorite quotes of all time, by Mahatma Gandhi: "You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
Be yourself. Live your vision. Follow your heart. Feed
your soul. Lead by example.
DESCRIPTION: Burgundy shirt with white letters on front saying: "I am. Therefore, I matter."
A mantra for everyone and everything. To know that you
matter; that you are important, simply because you are.
This is real power!
DESCRIPTION: Black shirt with white design of wheelchair wheels moving forward on front. aption reads: "Move it or lose it."
I get real tired just thinking about wearing this shirt.
It was my Physical Therapist's mantra. Thanks, Mimi!
DESCRIPTION: Black shirt with white letters saying "That which does not kill me makes me stronger".
COMMENTS: This is the credo for anyone who has ever been through trauma. If we can learn from our mistakes or trials, we are better for it.
